Gea, who participated in the tournament with a wild-card entry, faced Russian Karen Khachanov. At a score of 4-2 in the first set, Gea urgently requested the chair umpire for a bathroom break.

I need to go to the bathroom. I can’t move anymore. I’m going to use the court for this, Gea expressed, highlighting his emergency. Typically, players can only take bathroom breaks between sets.

Officials swiftly arrived at Court Suzanne-Lenglen to question Gea about the medical necessity for the break. He admitted he wasn’t feeling well, suffering from diarrhea, with the trainer noting his stomach problems.

Despite his pleas, the match paused only briefly. Gea made a swift move to the locker rooms after the point. Post-match, he stated that the umpire granted him a break due to the medical situation, and he received medicine for his stomach issues.

Gea clarified he felt healthy the prior night but began feeling unwell in the morning. Unfortunately, he exited the tournament early, losing to Khachanov in straight sets.
