Colin Kaepernick Discusses NFL and Political Impacts During ‘The View’
Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick made a public appearance on ‘The View’ where he discussed his conflict with the NFL and accused the league of political alignment with the Trump administration. In a conversation with co-hosts, Kaepernick shared insights from his career and the consequences of his protest during the national anthem.
Ana Navarro, a co-host, recounted Kaepernick’s legal battle with the NFL, suggesting that his political stance led to his exclusion from the league. She brought up Kaepernick’s lawsuit against the NFL for alleged collusion, noting that it ended in a confidential settlement.
Kaepernick attributed the NFL’s actions to politics and power dynamics. He explained that although he never directly protested the NFL, their responses reflected their political affiliations, including donations to President Donald Trump.
Kaepernick stated, ‘The NFL being approximately 70% Black also means that the players as the product on the field have power and control over where the league goes.’
Sunny Hostin, another co-host, agreed, emphasizing the influence players have, particularly if they unified in protest.
Despite widespread support after his protest, Kaepernick faced significant backlash, including death threats from those who perceived his actions as disrespectful to the flag and the military. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin questioned the intensity of the negative reactions.
Kaepernick acknowledged the mixed responses, drawing parallels with other athletes like Tommie Smith, John Carlos, and Muhammad Ali, who also faced repercussions for their protests. He expressed surprise over the resistance to the message that police should not kill Black people.
His conversation on ‘The View’ extended to his new book, ‘The Perilous Fight,’ a narrative exploring his career and activism, ten years after he began kneeling during the anthem.
Fox News Digital sought comments from the NFL and the White House but did not receive immediate responses. Kaepernick continues to deny support for the NFL, citing their actions against him and other protesting players.
