Markwayne Mullin Critiques Federal Judges Appointed by Biden in Immigration Cases
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has criticized federal judges appointed by President Joe Biden, describing them as challenging to work with regarding immigration issues. This comment was made at the RNC Midterm Convention, highlighting ongoing struggles faced by the Trump administration in legal battles over immigration.
Mullin stated, “We find judges, for the most part, honestly, that we can work with in almost every area. But you’ve got some of the judges that were appointed underneath Obama and definitely, if they’re appointed by Biden, they are almost impossible to work with.” He emphasized the complexities of navigating federal court rulings, particularly concerning birthright citizenship and immigrant visa policies.
“Immigration cases should be ‘cut and dry,'” Mullin argued, focusing on whether individuals entered legally and possess proper documentation.
Mullin also criticized state-level cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He pointed out that blue states limit ICE’s ability to detain individuals, including alleged violent criminals, drug dealers, or terrorists.
In Virginia, Governor Abigail Spanberger directed law enforcement agencies to end 287(g) agreements with ICE, which previously gave some officers authority over civil immigration rules. Mullin claimed that half of the recent deaths in Fairfax County were due to “illegal” activities.
Regarding sanctuary cities, Mullin shared the Trump administration’s stance against forcing local governments to accept federal assistance. “What we’re not gonna do is force our way in. You’re gonna have to decide that,” he said, leaving the decision to individual communities.
The City Council in Danbury, Connecticut, amended police hiring regulations to allow lawful permanent residents and DACA recipients to become officers. Mullin questioned how individuals without legal status could serve in law enforcement positions, expressing concern over prioritizing criminals over law-abiding citizens.
