Texas Candidate Faces Backlash for Racist Post
Bo French, a candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission, experienced a significant drop in his electoral prospects after a social media post sparked backlash. The post was widely seen as racist and prompted anger from within his own party.
French, who identifies himself as a ‘MAGA conservative,’ posted a photo on his platform, X, depicting Asian students celebrating the University of Texas’ football victory over Ohio State. His caption questioned the university’s graduation demographics, suggesting a problem he believed was severe. This post has been viewed 27 million times and faced criticism from Republican officials.
Senator John Cornyn publicly denounced the post, urging Republican peers to address what he termed as intolerance and racism. He asked whether others would condemn it or allow such behavior to become normal.
Governor Greg Abbott distanced himself from French’s message. In a statement to Politico, Abbott highlighted the unity among Texans, emphasizing their support for college football teams, regardless of the fans’ backgrounds.
French’s prediction market odds on Kalshi decreased by 10 percent, dropping to 62 percent from 72 percent between Sunday morning and early Monday.
Efforts to reach French’s campaign, the University of Texas, and the White House for comments outside regular hours have been made by Newsweek, with no response yet.
This news is still unfolding, and further updates are expected.
