A wedding photographer experienced an unexpected issue after purchasing film rolls on Amazon. Katie Hunt, based in Greensboro, North Carolina, has extensive wedding photography experience with her team at KD Hunt Photography. Despite her expertise, surprises still occur.
On September 10, Hunt was set to photograph a wedding and ordered extra film rolls online as a precaution. Although she mainly shoots digitally, she purchased two five-packs of Portra 400 35-millimeter film from an Amazon seller with positive reviews. However, when she arrived at the venue, she discovered the shocking contents of the canisters.
“There were one or two gravel-type rocks in every canister,” Hunt explained.
Hunt was surprised but continued to capture the day’s events. She contacted Amazon and suspects the issue arose from a customer who removed the film and replaced it with rocks. Amazon responded promptly, providing a refund and beginning an investigation. Lex Evans, an Amazon spokesperson, confirmed, “We have made this right with the customer and will continue looking into this.”
The film rolls from Amazon were meant as backups. Hunt successfully photographed the wedding without them. This incident has made her cautious about buying film rolls from Amazon in the future.
“The film with rocks was extra for my second photographer to use,” Hunt noted. “I had enough of my own film for the contract. I mostly shoot digitally, so film is just an addition, not the main service.”
Despite years of reliable Amazon purchases, this was her first issue. Following this experience, Hunt shared a TikTok video (@kdhuntphotographyllc) showing her discovery, going viral with over 2.3 million views and 144,500 likes.
Many viewers asked why her reaction was recorded. Hunt explained that her assistant often films behind-the-scenes footage during full wedding days, which helps attract clients by showcasing her working style.
