The Dallas Cowboys secured their first victory of the season by defeating the Washington Commanders 37-20 on Sunday. A standout performance by CeeDee Lamb played a significant role in this success.
Lamb, a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, dominated the Commanders’ defense. The 27-year-old wide receiver made eight catches totaling 153 yards and scored two touchdowns, most of which occurred in the first half.
“That guy, he’s been amazing. We’re just getting started. He’s just getting started and so he’s a hell of a player,” said quarterback Dak Prescott. “We started off these first two games with touchdowns; he’s had one in each game and I don’t think he’s going to stop. Just his mindset, his mentality, just where he is in life, it’s only going to get better and I’m excited for it.”
After his outstanding performance, Lamb received a surprise drug test from the NFL. Patrik Walker, a Cowboys team reporter, highlighted Lamb’s achievement on social media, noting nearly 100 receiving yards in the first half and two receiving touchdowns.
Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner and general manager, was not concerned about the drug test. Instead, he praised Lamb’s performance during his postgame discussion with the media. Jones expressed his admiration by saying, “CeeDee was just driven. He looked like everything he was doing was a part of his destiny. I think he was out here to show everybody what he means to the Cowboys. What kind of career he’s had. It’s a great way to put that on the cake.”
Lamb’s remarkable effort comes after a quieter game in the season opener against the New York Giants, where he recorded five catches for 44 yards and one touchdown.
In the same game against Washington, teammate Jake Ferguson also impressed with two touchdowns, ending with four catches and 43 yards. However, his performance did not draw the same level of attention from the NFL as Lamb’s did.
Dak Prescott also shone during the game, completing 26 of his 31 passes with an 83.8% completion rate. He amassed 279 yards, four touchdowns, and achieved a passer rating of 143.8 without any interceptions.
