President Donald Trump banned several news outlets from the White House this week, which led to an unusual problem at a televised event. His speech at a ribbon-cutting ceremony became inaudible when major networks boycotted the event.
Footage from Newsmax, a conservative network, showed Trump at the ceremony for a new White House helipad. However, his speech lacked audio due to the absence of cameras and microphones usually provided by the White House TV press pool.
“There’s no microphone because the pool cameras aren’t there,” commented a Newsmax presenter during the broadcast. “This may be an example of it backfiring slightly.”
Trump had previously announced the ban on CNN, MS NOW, and Politico in a post on Truth Social, citing those networks for reporting “FAKE NEWS.” This action triggered other major networks to withdraw from pool duty in protest.
Bryan Boughton, Fox News Washington bureau chief and TV pool chair, stated in a memo to the White House press corps that no replacement pool would be organized, a commentary reported by Politico.
This situation continues to evolve, with more updates expected.
