Ukrainian forces launched over 1,000 drones targeting Russian strongholds, including Moscow, officials reported on the heels of Russia’s parliamentary elections. This marked a massive drone assault, inflicting damage on a Moscow oil refinery and a residential area. Moscow’s mayor termed it the ‘largest ever’ drone attack on the capital.
The attack led to two fatalities, a 74-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, and injured 20 others, as stated by local Governor Andrei Vorobyov. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed utilizing a multitude of missiles and drones, including homemade Flamingo and Pelican variants, to assault oil and logistics facilities. Zelenskyy highlighted the economic pressure these attacks are intended to exert on Russia.
Amid these ongoing strikes, Russia held its first wartime parliamentary election, claimed the Kremlin, devoid of substantial opposition to President Vladimir Putin’s strategies. The voting, covering illegally annexed Ukrainian regions and Crimea, has been denounced by Kyiv as unlawful.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed to have intercepted 1,100 Ukrainian drones countrywide, including over Crimea and the Black Sea. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin indicated that 450 drones were destroyed heading for Moscow, aiming to disrupt the electoral process, though he assured that this strategy was unsuccessful.
Since the onset of Russia’s invasion over four years ago, Ukraine has excelled in drone technology, impressing on a global scale. Kyiv’s strategy is to make Russia’s populace acutely aware of the war’s impacts, aiming to pressure President Putin into peace talks. However, Putin has shown no inclination to halt the invasion.
The ongoing conflict has evolved into an intensifying exchange of long-range aerial assaults as ground fighting across the extensive front line in Ukraine remains hindered by drones and robotic defenses.
