Ohio State University has earned the reputation of being the top producer of elite NFL wide receivers. The school has seen an impressive run of having a wide receiver drafted in the first round for five straight years, from 2022 to 2026. This includes talents like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, and Carnell Tate.
Jeremiah Smith is expected to continue this legacy. His standout performance against Illinois underscored his position as one of the top wide receivers in the nation. In a game against Illinois, Smith caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter, showcasing his skills.
During Ohio State’s decisive 42-19 victory over Illinois, the connection between Julian Sayin and Smith was remarkable. Smith achieved four touchdowns, tying the Ohio State record for a single game. He also racked up 217 receiving yards, making him only the second Buckeye receiver to have over 200 yards and four touchdowns in one game.
Smith has now become the favorite for the Heisman Trophy, surpassing Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and Miami quarterback Darian Mensah. Ohio State’s recent performances have been dominant, with a combined score of 101-22 in their last two matches following a loss to Texas.
The team faces a challenging game against Iowa on Oct. 3, known for their strong defense.
