Lakers media day traditionally follows a routine with new jerseys, bright lights, and repetitive questions. This year’s event at the UCLA Health Training Center featured a significant moment, as one chair held greater attention than the others.
Entering his third season in Los Angeles, Bronny James faces a different scenario. His father, LeBron James, departed to join the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency over the summer. This change marks the first time Bronny will not have his father in the locker room.
During a session at the Lakers’ training complex, Bronny addressed the legacy tied to his name. ClutchPoints quoted him saying, “You guys know me as Bronny. My real name is LeBron. I’ve been doing this for however long, so I think it’s a motivating factor for me just getting up every day and trying to prove myself as Bronny instead of LeBron.”
Reporter Jordan Richard shared a clip from the Lakers’ first practice, highlighting Bronny as the last player to exit the gym. The atmosphere feels different without LeBron, something Bronny acknowledged. Though the Lakers and 76ers will clash on Christmas Day in LA, Bronny’s primary focus remains on the challenges ahead.
Bronny aims to build on the minutes he secured last season. He appeared in 42 games, averaging 2.9 points in just under nine minutes per game. His shooting from three-point range improved to 38.6%, showing progress from his first year.
Competition for court time remains fierce, with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves leading the backcourt. Despite the crowded lineup, Bronny asserts he is ready to take on any responsibilities the team assigns him.
