Jon Gruden and Jon Husted at Ohio Rally with Donald Trump
Jon Gruden, known for his fiery coaching style and offensive strategies in the NFL, made an unexpected appearance at a rally for President Donald Trump in Ohio. The rally took place on Saturday night, where Gruden stood alongside Ohio Senator Jon Husted and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
The event occurred in Vandalia, Ohio, with Trump addressing the crowd as supporters displayed ‘Trump Country’ flags. During the rally, a protester interrupted, leading to the crowd chanting ‘Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye’ as security removed the individual.
Trump remarked on Gruden’s presence, saying, ‘Jon Gruden is standing here, saying, ‘I don’t believe this. This is rougher than a football game.’ Trump emphasized the energy in the rally, comparing it to a sports event. Gruden, who has a history coaching NFL teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Raiders, was introduced to the crowd by Husted.
Gruden and Husted share a long history, having been teammates on the 1985 University of Dayton football team. Gruden expressed gratitude to the crowd, highlighting his Ohio roots and connection to Husted. He stated, ‘I love you guys. I just came back for one reason, and I’m from Ohio.’
Gruden praised Husted, calling him a great player who intercepted 17 passes during his football career. He attributed Husted’s success to his strong work ethic and mental toughness. Husted has held various political positions, including Ohio state representative and U.S. senator since January 2025. His football achievements include being an All-American cornerback and kick returner at Dayton, and a starter on the Flyers’ undefeated 1989 national championship team.
Gruden encouraged the crowd to support Husted, emphasizing the importance of early voting. He urged them to bring friends and ensure Husted’s continued success in the election. ‘Let’s get Husted back in action,’ Gruden exclaimed, rallying the audience to participate in the upcoming vote.
