The UnPopulist has reported on findings from the latest survey by the Institute for the Study of Modern Authoritarianism (ISMA). This independent publication focuses on safeguarding liberal democracy against authoritarian movements both in the U.S. and globally.
ISMA’s survey reveals a noticeable shift among voters who supported Kamala Harris in the presidential election of 2024. These voters have grown increasingly skeptical of American elites since that time. Compared to the previous survey conducted in August 2024, where 59% of Harris supporters strongly believed that six American elites were harming individuals like them to serve their own interests, the latest data shows that this sentiment has risen to 69% as of June.
This ten-percentage-point increase marks the only significant change among four populist attitudes tracked in the survey. It reflects a deepening cynicism towards those perceived as holding power and influence within the nation.
The survey underscores the importance of understanding public sentiment and its implications for political dynamics and social attitudes.
