The first Atlantic hurricane of 2026 is on track to make landfall along the Gulf Coast. Live maps are actively tracking the storm’s approach towards the United States.
Meteorological Warnings
Isaias, now classified as a Category 2 hurricane, is predicted to hit the central Gulf Coast and parts of the Southeast. Meteorologists caution about heavy rain and destructive winds. A significant threat of flooding and storm surges looms.
Landfall Forecast
Forecasts from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) suggest that the hurricane will likely reach the Florida Panhandle or Alabama by late Friday or early Saturday. Alabama, Florida, and Georgia are under the risk of tornadoes.
“With the storm making landfall at night, flooding from storm surges and freshwater is more dangerous as it is harder to discern the speed and depth of the water,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Peyton Simmers to Newsweek on Thursday.
Nighttime Hazards
There is a likelihood of nocturnal tornadoes, which are challenging to spot at night. Rapid development is expected, so residents, even those distant from the landfall area, should ensure they receive timely warnings.
This situation is still unfolding. Updates will be provided as events progress.
