The Cincinnati Bengals’ safety, Jordan Battle, recently revealed a potential tell in Malik Willis’ throwing motion. This revelation came ahead of the Bengals’ game against the Miami Dolphins. Battle detailed that Willis tends to ‘tap’ the ball before throwing, describing it as a key for defensive players to anticipate his throws. This disclosure happened during a press interview where Battle freely shared this insight.
While the Bengals coaching staff might not appreciate Battle’s openness, the Dolphins took note. Miami head coach Jeff Hafley commented on Battle’s observation. He acknowledged that many quarterbacks have timing-related habits, like tapping the ball. However, he appreciated any opportunity to learn about such tendencies from opponents.
“It’s a timing and rhythm thing with a lot of guys, and there’s a lot of them that do that, but any opponent that wants to share our tendencies with us, we’ll take any time,” Hafley said.
Fans reacted strongly on social media, criticizing Battle for sharing valuable strategic information. Some fans jokingly suggested he might as well reveal all the Bengals’ defensive plays.
Jordan Battle, now in his fourth season with the Bengals, has been a consistent player since joining the team as a third-round draft pick in 2023 from Alabama. He has not missed any games in his career, recording one interception this season, contributing to his career total of seven. He also has 25 tackles and two passes defensed this season.
The Bengals aim to leverage this tell to potentially gain a defensive advantage as they prepare to face the Dolphins, who have yet to secure a win this season. The game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, with the Bengals seeking to recover after losing two consecutive games.
