House Speaker Mike Johnson from Louisiana expressed reservations about live-streaming the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan. Hasan, a former Army major, is sentenced to death for the Fort Hood shooting where 13 people lost their lives. Johnson shared his thoughts with CBS News, highlighting potential risks of broadcasting the event.
He pointed out that streaming such executions might serve as a “recruiting tool for future terrorists.” This concern arises amidst plans to publicly broadcast the firing-squad execution. Johnson emphasized the need to consider policy implications carefully before proceeding with live streaming this event.
Johnson’s comments came during a campaign event held in Iowa this month, as captured in a photograph by Scott Olson from Getty Images.
