President Donald Trump revisited Ohio on Monday, marking his second rally in the state within a span of ten days. He promoted the event’s crowd size while campaigning for Republicans before the upcoming November midterm elections. The Covelli Centre in Youngstown hosted an enthusiastic audience, with local reports indicating that attendees queued up hours in advance. Despite the lively crowd, some empty seats were noted in video footage from the venue.
Preceding the rally, Trump predicted a significant turnout in Ohio. He expressed this sentiment in a post on Truth Social, stating, ‘Tremendous Response to Radical Left Socialists, Communists, and Lunatics trying to take over our Country. See you later, Ohio!’
Former NFL coach Jon Gruden introduced Trump, who addressed the audience for about 80 minutes. He was accompanied by Ohio Republican Senator Jon Husted, gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and YouTuber and professional boxer Jake Paul. Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno spoke before Trump’s appearance, while embattled Ohio Republican Representative Max Miller, also present, received recognition from Trump during his speech, thanking him for attending.
Trump’s Monday rally followed his earlier appearance in Vandalia on October 3. With Election Day approaching in 22 days, Ohio has become a crucial battleground in the fight for Senate and House control. Husted is in a competitive Senate race against Democratic challenger Sherrod Brown.
What Videos and Pictures Show
Videos from the rally depicted supporters gathered inside the Covelli Centre, often responding enthusiastically to Trump’s speech with cheers and chants. The crowd frequently chanted ‘deport’ during Trump’s comments on immigration and Somali immigrants. Demonstrators interrupting Trump’s address received jeers from the audience.
While several empty seats were observed, official attendance numbers were not released. The Covelli Centre has a capacity of up to 7,000 people, based on its website.
Trump Targets Ilhan Omar and Somali Immigrants
During the rally, Trump frequently mentioned Minnesota, criticizing Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, and the state’s Somali community in discussions on immigration and fraud allegations. His comments followed federal agents searching Omar’s home in Washington, D.C. earlier that day.
Trump addressed the search during the event, distancing himself from the incident while criticizing Omar. ‘I don’t know what they’re doing with it, but I can tell you this: She’s a disaster,’ Trump remarked about Omar.
He also criticized Somalia, Omar’s birthplace, labeling it as ‘one of the worst countries anywhere on the planet.’ Rally-goers responded to his criticism of Somali immigrants with chants of ‘deport.’
Newsweek requested a comment from Omar’s office via email. Omar’s office denounced the raid as an ‘outrageous abuse of power,’ stating, ‘The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.’
Trump has persistently cited Minnesota in his allegations of fraud involving the state’s Somali community, incorporating these accusations into his broader attacks on immigration and states led by Democrats. He warned Ohio voters to prevent their state from facing similar issues, urging support for Husted and Ramaswamy in the upcoming midterm elections.
Protesters Interrupt Trump
Protesters repeatedly disrupted Trump’s speech, eliciting boos from the audience and strong reactions from the president. He accused the protesters of being paid by the left, as he has in prior rallies. As one protester was escorted out, Trump suggested he ‘go back home to mom,’ calling him a ‘fat guy.’ Reacting to another interruption, Trump asked the crowd about a flag carried by a protester, questioning if it was Palestinian.
Near the rally’s conclusion, Trump brought up Jake Paul, who grew up in Cleveland. Paul commented on the protesters, stating, ‘The protesters, do they not have jobs? That’s all they do—carry signs around while we do the work.’
Trump plans to continue his midterm campaign on Tuesday with a rally in Wasilla, Alaska. He will hold additional rallies on Wednesday in Bullhead City, Arizona, and Kalispell, Montana, followed by a campaign event in Dalton, Georgia, on Friday.
