President Donald Trump recently announced pardons for two Alaska diesel mechanics during a midterm rally in Wasilla. Zachary Czubak and Patrick Fleming, co-owners of a diesel repair shop in Anchorage, were brought onstage to sign clemency documents. The pardons were part of Trump’s presentation, highlighting major energy investments and infrastructure projects in Alaska.
Trump described Czubak and Fleming as victims of unjust prosecution during the Biden administration. They had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the Clean Air Act in 2022. Trump also referenced an earlier pardon for Mackenzie ‘Mac’ Spurlock, another diesel shop owner in Wasilla.
Details of the Prosecution
According to the Justice Department under President Biden, Czubak and Fleming were implicated in tampering with emissions-control equipment on at least 37 diesel vehicles between July 2019 and September 2020. Their shop, named ‘Arm Rippin Toys,’ reportedly earned around $100,000 from these modifications.
Trump criticized the prosecutions as unfair, arguing that the mechanics’ work was essential for keeping trucks operational in Alaska’s harsh climate. His comments resonated with supporters attending the rally.
Trump’s Comments and Energy Announcements
As he signed the clemency documents, Trump remarked on his enjoyment of the presidential pardon power, making a humorous reference to former President Joe Biden’s use of an autopen.
The rally also served as a platform for major announcements on Alaska’s energy projects. Trump declared that an 800-mile natural gas pipeline had obtained all necessary federal permits. He encouraged attendees to commence work on the pipeline, stating, ‘Every single permit that you need has been granted.’
Fox News Digital requested further information from the White House regarding the permitting status of this energy project.
