Anthropic Surpasses OpenAI with $65 Billion Funding Round

Anthropic, previously overshadowed by its competitor OpenAI, has experienced significant growth recently. The San Francisco-based company raised $65 billion in a new financing round, boosting its value to $900 billion. This new valuation places Anthropic ahead of OpenAI, which was valued at $730 billion.

Anthropic’s latest achievement is attributed to its development of a powerful AI model called Mythos. This model excels in detecting and exploiting hidden software flaws, illustrating the company’s technological advancements. Additionally, Anthropic played a role in advising Pope Leo XIV on his papal encyclical that cautioned against the disruptive potential of AI.

The company has introduced its flagship AI model, Claude Opus 4.8. This model surpasses its predecessor in generating computer code from English prompts. This advancement has positioned Anthropic as a leader in AI-driven coding technology.

The recent investment, led by prominent firms such as Greenoaks Capital, Sequoia Capital, Altimeter Capital, and Dragoneer Investment Group, significantly increased Anthropic’s valuation from $380 billion just three months ago. The funding reflects the company’s success in developing AI technology, transforming the way software code is generated, and attracting hundreds of business customers.

Anthropic’s Chief Financial Officer, Krishna Rao, stated that the new funding will support the growing demand for their technology. This will enable the company to continue its research efforts and expand the deployment of Claude Opus into various work environments.
