Carmelo Anthony eagerly anticipates Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. He will watch Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks receive their long-awaited NBA title rings. A banner will ascend for the first time in 53 years.
Anthony, part of NBC Sports’ NBA crew, feels the urge to prepare like he’s back in his No. 7 Knicks jersey. He joked about needing to stop himself from embracing this mindset.
“A game like tomorrow – opening night, ring night, banner night. Like right now, I’m preparing myself to get ready for the game like I’m about to go play,” he told OutKick.
As he preps for the NBA season and his work with DraftKings, Anthony enjoys staying connected to basketball’s big moments. He recalls attending the Knicks’ 2026 championship parade at New York City Hall.
The significance of winning a title is undeniable. He imagines the adrenaline and emotions for players and acknowledges how defending the title means every team targets them now.
“Defending it is a job,” Anthony noted. “So, nobody’s sneaking up on anybody anymore. Every team will circle the Knicks on their schedule.”
During the season, Anthony could envision himself playing in crucial moments, which highlights his connection to the team and the fans who longed for another championship. He recounted the excitement of the pivotal game moments, like the OG Anunoby tip-in against the San Antonio Spurs.
Anthony’s perspective shifted from player to fan as the season progressed. He relished seeing Jalen Brunson celebrate with the Larry O’Brien Trophy during the victory parade.
Looking at the upcoming season, Anthony remarks on the Knicks’ readiness to maintain their championship status. He discusses the importance of personal improvement for each player, highlighting a “championship mindset.” He believes this will keep the Knicks competitive.
While acknowledging other teams like the Philadelphia 76ers that aim for the title, Anthony emphasizes maintaining focus and determination.
“When you know you have the crown, you’re not going to let anybody knock that crown off. No matter what we gotta do, no matter how hard it is, we gotta maintain this crown.”
Anthony also expresses enthusiasm for the DraftKings campaign he is part of, alongside Kevin Hart and Nick Jonas. The campaign, accessible across all 50 states, encourages fun with basketball and sports in general.
He appreciates the creative team behind it and looks forward to engaging fans with the campaign’s fun concept.
Anthony cherishes the opportunity to collaborate with Hart and Jonas, and he’s eager for fans to see what they’ve created.
