On October 27, 2026, President Donald Trump urged the Senate to pass legislation making daylight saving time permanent. This call to action came as the nation approached the upcoming clock change set to occur on November 1.
During a rally held in Mississippi, Trump criticized the biannual clock changes as “ridiculous” and said it “drives everyone crazy.” He stated that people prefer additional daylight in the evening over the morning, emphasizing that Americans are tired of adjusting their clocks.
Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the Senate’s inaction on the Sunshine Protection Act. While the House approved the bill earlier this year, the Senate has failed to advance it, leaving daylight saving time scheduled to end as usual. He highlighted the public’s disappointment in a speech: “The bill remains locked in the Senate, meaning daylight saving time will end as scheduled to the disappointment of many, many Americans.”
The president also addressed the issue on Truth Social, criticizing the Senate for allowing the bill to stagnate. He wrote, “The United States Senate is letting the Daylight Saving Bill die, when a vast majority of the country wants it. Most people are demanding light in the evening, but all want not to change their clocks anymore.”
This situation continues to develop, with further updates anticipated.
