The NFL and team owners are not aligning with Aaron Rodgers’ recent proposal to host all international games in one week. Front Office Sports reports a lack of support for the plan among league stakeholders. A source explained, “You’d be competing against yourself” by scheduling all international games in a single week.
Rodgers’ suggestion also included the idea of a 16-game season accompanied by two bye weeks, with 16 teams playing internationally during one week. The source dismissed this notion, stating, “I’m quite sure we never talked about a 16-game season with two byes and 16 international games in one week.” This arrangement had not been considered during the negotiations leading to the 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NFL and the NFL Players Association.
Currently, the NFL has scheduled nine international games throughout nine separate weeks. The next game is set for November 8, when the Cincinnati Bengals will compete against the Atlanta Falcons in Spain.
