Libertarian Candidate Jeremy Todd Seeks Alternative Path in Kentucky Congressional Race
In the American political arena dominated by the GOP and Democrats, Libertarians like Jeremy Todd, a candidate in Kentucky’s congressional race, aim to present voters with alternative options during midterm elections. Todd believes the Republican Party has strayed from true conservatism and the principles of small government. ‘They may be more conservative than Democrats, but to us true conservatives, that’s not good enough,’ Todd stated in an interview.
Todd entered the U.S. House race after Rep. Thomas Massie lost the Republican primary in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District to Trump-endorsed Ed Gallrein. Democratic candidate Melissa Strange is also in the race. Todd welcomes supporters of conservative and limited government beliefs to join his campaign, envisioning a broader movement that may thrive after the possible decline of the Republican Party.
Former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent and former Rep. Ron Paul have endorsed Todd. Despite a recent Pew Research survey indicating only 5% of voters choosing non-GOP or Democrat candidates, Todd remains optimistic, advocating for voters to give his campaign a chance.
Libertarian presence is growing, although no candidate under the party has secured a U.S. Congress seat. Former Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, who switched from Republican to Libertarian, did serve in Congress but won elections as a Republican. Similarly, Libertarian candidate Ted Brown is on the ballot for the 2026 Texas U.S. Senate race against prominent figures like Ken Paxton and James Talarico. Brown dismisses accusations of spoiling Republican chances, pointing to a flawed political system.
Bill Redpath, a former Libertarian National Committee chair, is running in a special Ohio U.S. Senate race facing Republican Sen. Jon Husted and Democrat Sherrod Brown. He previously earned under 2% in a 2022 Illinois Senate bid, yet continues his advocacy.
Todd encourages voters to look beyond the ‘lesser of two evils’ narrative and participate in the elections to provide his campaign with a genuine opportunity for victory. He supports Massie’s agenda on fiscal conservatism, particularly reducing government expenditure to combat affordability challenges facing younger generations.
‘The affordability crisis is real,’ Todd asserts, emphasizing the need to halt excessive government spending and address currency devaluation. He criticizes U.S. spending on international conflicts, urging withdrawal from costly involvements.
In a social media post, Todd branded President Donald Trump as a ‘warmonger,’ despite acknowledging Trump’s successful political coalition formation. Todd remarked on Trump addressing the Libertarian National Convention in 2024, yet criticized him for not fulfilling promises beyond border security.
The White House and the Republican National Committee have not commented on Todd’s criticisms or campaign. However, the RNC reaffirmed Trump’s endorsement of Ed Gallrein, asserting focus on electing ‘America First Republicans.’
Massie, a former congressman critical of military aid to Israel, received AIPAC-linked election intervention but did not comment on his voting intention besides a terse non-endorsement of the AIPAC-backed candidate.
