UCLA Bruins quarterback Nico Iamaleava will miss the rest of the season due to a season-ending injury sustained against Oregon. Despite this setback, Iamaleava has clearly expressed his intentions to remain with the UCLA program for the upcoming season.
Strong Start with Bruins
Under the leadership of first-year head coach Bob Chesney, Iamaleava helped UCLA achieve a 4-0 start before suffering a torn ACL during their victory over Oregon in Week 6. The team aims to maintain their undefeated streak even in his absence for the remainder of the season.
Future Plans
According to Matt Zenitz, an insider from CBS Sports College Football, Iamaleava has informed the Bruins of his decision to return next season, instead of entering the 2027 NFL Draft. This choice seems prudent, given the risk NFL teams face in drafting a player recovering from a serious injury and also provides Iamaleava an opportunity to showcase his talents for the 2028 NFL Draft.
Offensive Efficiency with Iamaleava
Iamaleava’s impact on UCLA’s performance is evident. The team averaged 39.2 points per game when he started, compared to only 22.5 points with Ty Dieffenbach taking his place. This clearly indicates the offensive efficiency Iamaleava brings to the team.
As UCLA prepares for their upcoming match against the Nevada Wolf Pack in Week 9, they have immediate concerns for preserving their unbeaten record, with Iamaleava potentially leading the team again next season.
