In May, the Chicago White Sox achieved significant success by winning 18 games. This milestone marks their highest monthly win total since May 2021, when they secured 19 victories. General manager Chris Getz expressed his satisfaction, remarking, “It was a quality month.”

Before facing the Minnesota Twins, Getz highlighted the team’s strong performance against Minnesota and Detroit, saying, “We’ve been able to stack a handful of those throughout May.” The White Sox won three out of four games against the Twins and swept the Tigers in a three-game series. Their last victory against Detroit came with a late rally, resulting in a 2-1 win, their 16th comeback victory this season, the highest in the American League.

Getz praised the players’ resilience, noting, “Even the games we were down, they just don’t give in.” The team’s positive energy translated to the support of their fans, boosting morale and performance.

During May, the team recorded an 18-10 win-loss tally, holding a .643 winning percentage. They ranked second in the AL, just behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Jacob Gonzalez, the first baseman, is stepping up in light of Munetaka Murakami’s absence due to a right hamstring strain. Murakami’s injury has created an opportunity for Gonzalez, who has shown promise with 19 home runs in Triple-A over two months.

Getz commented, “We’re not expecting him to be Mune, but he’s going to be helpful.” Murakami’s return is uncertain, with a recovery time frame of four to six weeks. The Sox are taking cautious steps regarding his recovery, mindful of the diversity in healing processes.

Gonzalez made his debut with an impressive 1-for-3 performance. The consistent impact of call-ups throughout the season is evident. Getz gave credit to the management and coaches in the minor league system for their role in player development.

Getz expressed confidence in the minor-league managers, saying, “I really want to highlight our managers because I think they have done a really outstanding job.” This acknowledgment extends to the directors and coaches involved in the players’ progression.

On the injury front, outfielder Austin Hays returned from his rehab assignment due to persistent soreness in his left calf. Hays has been on the injured list since May 2, adding another challenge for the team to manage.
