Young Graduate Tragically Killed in Indianapolis
A recent graduate from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis, Brett Scrogham, was tragically shot and killed on Thursday. The 23-year-old was planning to attend an Indianapolis Indians baseball game with his family when he parked in a public garage, as reported by WXIN.
Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot and observed a man fleeing the scene. Police found Scrogham wounded and he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. The incident occurred on May 28, 2026, and he passed away on May 30, 2026.
“Making meaningful progress in this investigation,” authorities stated, although no suspect description has been released yet.
Scrogham was recognized the previous year as one of the top 100 undergraduate students by Indiana University Indianapolis. In a LinkedIn post, he expressed gratitude for his peers and experiences at the Kelley School of Business.
Working as a development analyst in commercial real estate, Scrogham was known for his intelligence and friendliness. His friend, recalling him, described Scrogham as smart and deeply involved in his faith, envisioning him leading a company in the near future. His friend last saw him showcasing his dancing skills at a wedding, noting his remarkable ability on the dance floor.
Violent crime has been a growing concern in Indianapolis. The city’s Democratic Mayor, Joe Hogsett, expressed his condolences and called the violence unacceptable. He commended local authorities and emphasized the need for community cooperation to solve the crime.
