Drake’s hit “Janice STFU” currently leads the Billboard’s inaugural 2026 “Songs of the Summer” chart. This achievement follows his album ICEMAN maintaining its position at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart for a second week.
Billboard’s Songs of the Summer Chart
The “Songs of the Summer” chart emerges each year from Billboard, encapsulating how tracks perform on the Hot 100 from late May to early September. This year’s chart includes various contenders, all aiming for the summer anthem title. Notably, Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” held the top spot last summer until the influx of new music from Drake caused a shift.
To qualify for the Songs of the Summer list, tunes must be fresh and not have been major hits in a prior summer. Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” is the exception in this week’s top 20 due to renewed attention from the biopic about Jackson.
Impact of Drake’s Streaming Success
As ICEMAN retains strong streaming momentum, it occupies seven spots on the Songs of the Summer chart. However, this dominance may decline as other major releases enter the scene. Olivia Rodrigo’s new album, set to release on June 12, and Ariana Grande’s upcoming album, debuting on July 31, are significant contenders. Taylor Swift also plans to drop “I Knew It, I Knew You” for Toy Story 5’s soundtrack, which may impact chart dynamics.
Current Top Songs
Presently, the summer chart has Drake leading alongside other notable tracks like Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need” and “So Easy (To Fall in Love),” Bruno Mars’ “I Just Might,” and Ella Langley’s top singles “Choosin’ Texas” and “Be Her.”
Album Rankings
Last week, Drake made history with the top three albums on the chart by releasing three albums simultaneously. ICEMAN remains at No. 1, while his other albums, HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR, slightly fall in ranking. Other top albums of the summer include Ella Langley’s Dandelion and Noah Kahan’s The Great Divide. BTS and Le Sserafim also secure spots in the top 10 with their respective albums.
Dominance of Familiar Names
This week’s top 10 songs heavily feature recurring artists, including Drake, Olivia Dean, Ella Langley, Bruno Mars, and Olivia Rodrigo. Drake alone accounts for 29 of the top 100 songs, illustrating the substantial influence of streaming on chart positions.
The modern Hot 100 chart reflects tracks that gain traction through streaming, sales, and radio play. The evolving dynamics of how songs rise in ranks underline the complexity and challenges in evaluating music popularity today.
