Gregg Allman, a legendary figure in music, is celebrated in a new documentary titled “The Music of My Soul.” The film debuted in New York City, showcasing Allman’s profound impact on the music industry.
The documentary is rich with Allman’s own music, encapsulating his journey and influence. Notably, it includes a unique song by country artist Jackson Dean. Dean’s song, “My Cross to Bear,” appears at the film’s conclusion, serving as a heartfelt tribute to Allman’s legacy with the Allman Brothers Band. His iconic tracks like “Midnight Rider,” “Whipping Post,” and “I’m No Angel” are part of the movie’s soundtrack.
“Gregg Allman’s music is woven into the fabric of American culture, and this film captures both the artistry and the humanity behind the legend,” Brian Levy of Subtext remarked. “We’re proud to bring this film to American audiences, offering devoted fans rare insight and archival material while introducing Gregg’s legacy to a new generation.”
Subtext, responsible for acquiring the film’s North American rights, is an independent film production and distribution company in the U.S.
Michael Lehman, who worked closely with Allman, expressed his sentiments: “I am honored to have worked with Gregg and to have called him my dear friend. This film captures his true essence, and it’s profoundly meaningful to be able to share his remarkable story with the world. Gregg’s music has outlived him and will bring joy to many generations in the future.”
Following its premiere on Tuesday, June 9, in New York City, “Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul” will be screened in Macon, Georgia, Allman’s hometown, on Thursday, June 11. The film will also be shown in Los Angeles and New York for a week before its nationwide release on June 17. Screening information is available on the film’s official website.
