Knicks Plan Official Watch Party for Game 5 of the N.B.A. Finals
The New York Knicks will host a watch party for 3,000 fans outside Madison Square Garden on Saturday for Game 5 of the N.B.A. finals. This decision follows a pause on their previous game due to disagreements with city officials and the Police Department regarding security measures.
The Knicks lead the series against the San Antonio Spurs, having won three out of four games. A victory on Saturday would secure their first championship in over five decades.
While the city’s celebrations have mostly been peaceful, some disturbances have occurred, leading to numerous arrests and minor injuries to police officers during altercations with fans. During Games 3 and 4 at the Garden, a protective ‘frozen zone’ was established, covering several blocks. Checkpoints were set up, requiring screenings for those entering Penn Station and nearby businesses.
The announcement for the Game 5 watch party suggests a similar ‘frozen zone’ will be implemented. However, details on its timing and extent remain pending. The game, played in San Antonio, is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time.
Where to Watch Game 5
- Plaza33: Tickets are needed to attend the party outside the Garden. Registration starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Arrival by 8:30 p.m. is required.
- Radio City Music Hall: Tickets cost $10 and support the Garden of Dreams Foundation. Sales open at 10 a.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m.
- Wollman Rink, Central Park: Entry is free, but registration is necessary from 10 a.m. Gates open at 7 p.m.
- LinkNYC Kiosks: Over 100 kiosks city-wide will stream Game 5. Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that these kiosks would transform sidewalks and streets into celebratory watch parties, exclaiming ‘Knicks in Five.’
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
