James Handy, a notable actor, was tragically found dead after being stabbed outside his Tarzana home. In a press release, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office revealed that Michael Gledhill, 44, the son of Handy’s girlfriend, has been charged with murder. If convicted, Gledhill faces a potential sentence of 26 years to life in prison.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman expressed his dismay in a statement, underscoring the grave nature of the crime. He remarked, “This is not how anyone’s life should end, stabbed in the chest and left dying in the front yard of a home. The victim, James Handy, deserved to live out his later years enjoying what he had worked so hard for and enjoying it with those he loved and cared about.”
James Handy, recognized for his roles in films like “Jumanji” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” was killed early on a Wednesday morning. Reports from law enforcement indicated that a 911 call came from Gledhill, who stated, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
Officers arriving at the scene discovered Handy, 81, unconscious and suffering from a stab wound in the front yard. Despite being transported to a local hospital promptly, Handy was pronounced dead.
Gledhill approached police upon their arrival, confessing to the crime. He lived at the residence with his mother, who was Handy’s girlfriend. Following his confession, Gledhill was arrested and booked into the Van Nuys Jail with bail set at $2 million. He faces one count of murder with a special allegation for using a deadly weapon.
