For over ten years, the conversation around higher education has focused primarily on access. While important, there is a crucial need to consider the students who leave college without obtaining their degree.
The Hechinger Report has highlighted this issue, aiming to raise awareness about how education systems can be improved to serve all students effectively.
Consider a high school student enrolled in college courses through a dual-enrollment program. By the time this student reaches their first year, they have already gained college credits. Yet many students who start this way face challenges that prevent them from graduating.
Focusing on entrance into college is only part of the solution. Attention must shift to supporting students throughout their academic journey to ensure successful graduation.
