Oklahoma Copper Theft Suspect’s Unusual Escape
Unusual Escape Attempt by Copper Theft Suspect
On October 1, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office faced a remarkable incident involving a copper theft suspect. Deputies responded to a burglary call at a vacant property on Sunset Lane. The suspect, Rayven Lee Wooten, 24, was found inside, allegedly stealing copper wire from a dishwasher.
Bodycam footage released by the sheriff’s office reveals the encounter. A deputy instructed Wooten to remove his hands from his pockets, turn around, and kneel. Ignoring warnings, Wooten made a shocking exit, diving headfirst through a closed window.
Deputy’s Reaction and Pursuit
The deputy, startled by the escape, alerted others via radio that the suspect was fleeing on foot. Despite Wooten’s initial escape, deputies found his backpack, which contained his driver’s license, allowing them to locate him later.
“A suspect took the phrase ‘Make a break for it’ a little too literally,” the sheriff’s office commented, amusingly suggesting Wooten missed his calling as a stuntman.
Public Reaction and Charges
The deputy’s surprise and the suspect’s oversight of leaving his identification drew attention. Commenters pointed out Wooten’s error and the deputy’s shock.
Wooten now faces several charges, including burglary, resisting arrest, and obstructing an officer.
