Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce aggravated his surgically repaired heel during Sunday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Pierce left the game in the first half and did not return. The Colts were defeated 33-30 in overtime at Arrowhead Stadium.
Pierce aims to rehabilitate the injury without another surgery, as reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The 26-year-old wide receiver is projected to miss several weeks but may return to play for Indianapolis around midseason. Rapoport noted, “It’s likely that Alec Pierce will head to IR while he recovers. If all goes well, he could recover without surgery. But it’s not a guarantee. Surgery is still possible.”
In response to Pierce’s injury, Tom Pelissero reported that the Colts have signed veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton. Slayton, who spent seven seasons with the New York Giants, was released before the team’s season opener. He joined the Giants the same year as quarterback Daniel Jones, who now plays for the Colts.
In the 2025 season, Slayton appeared in 14 games and started 12, securing 37 catches for 538 yards and one touchdown.
The 0-2 Colts aim for their first win of the 2026 season in a Week 3 matchup against the Houston Texans this coming Sunday.
