Amy Grant shared the advice her doctor gave after she suffered a significant brain injury during a bike accident in 2022. The ‘Baby, Baby’ singer experienced a major fall, resulting in a concussion and other injuries. The accident left her with lingering symptoms like memory loss, slower reaction times, balance problems, fatigue, and difficulty remembering lyrics. She described battling depression as she recovered from these injuries.
Recently, Grant has released her new album, ‘The Me That Remains’, marking her first collection of original music in over a decade. In an interview with Fox News Digital, she explained how a doctor’s candid guidance helped inspire her to continue songwriting, a cathartic process that contributed to her healing. She received the advice, ‘Lean in, don’t pull back, don’t shrink. Lean into the things that you’ve loved.’ This encouragement reignited her passion for writing, leading to the creation of the album’s titular track.
Grant, now 65, noted that her approach to songwriting has evolved with age. ‘The Me That Remains’ is a reflection of her life experiences and observations. She feels a newfound freedom to express the truth without concern for how it appears. The album signifies a personal exploration and acceptance of oneself and others.
In addition to her brain injury, Grant faced more health challenges. A vocalist noticed changes in Grant’s neck appearance following the accident, leading to the discovery of a thyroglossal duct cyst. Such cysts are usually found in young children, making her case rare. In early 2023, she underwent surgery to remove the cyst, requiring her to relearn singing.
Earlier, in 2019, Grant experienced a serious health scare when she learned about a rare heart condition, partial anomalous pulmonary venous return, during her husband Vince Gill’s cardiologist visit. She had open-heart surgery to address this condition. Reflecting on these experiences, Grant acknowledges the unpredictability of life and appreciates each day. Her perspective on fame and success has been shaped by her family’s grounding influence.
Amy Grant’s health challenges have motivated her to view life as a gift. She emphasized the importance of community support in overcoming personal hurdles. Recently, she headlined the Covenant House California’s ‘Speak Out’ event, supporting homeless youth. At the event, she expressed gratitude for participating alongside talented young people.
