Arch Manning gave the Texas Longhorns a strong start with two touchdown passes in their 30-6 win over UTSA in Austin. Despite Manning’s early success, he faced challenges throughout the game. He ended with 164 passing yards, connecting on 17 of 33 attempts. Manning endured several tough hits before exiting in the fourth quarter.
With this victory, Texas’ record improved to 3-0. However, the Longhorns face a tougher test next week as they begin their Southeastern Conference play against No. 15 Tennessee in Knoxville. Tennessee remains strong, boasting a 3-0 record after dominating Kennesaw State 42-9.
Longhorns wide receiver Cam Coleman scored twice, starting with a touchdown after an interception by Rasheem Biles. His second touchdown, a catch in the end zone’s corner, increased Texas’ lead to 17-3 during the second quarter.
In the second half, a run by Derrek Cooper ended in a touchdown celebration with Manning. Kicker Gianni Spetic added three field goals, pushing the score to 23-6 by the fourth quarter. Freshman Derrick Cooper achieved his first career touchdown late in the game.
Manning struggled after his early success, missing targets and facing aggressive hits that resulted in his helmet being knocked off. Despite these challenges, the Longhorns’ defense remained solid, allowing UTSA only 143 total yards and preventing them from scoring touchdowns.
UTSA will host Colorado State next Saturday as they seek to regain momentum.
