The Arizona Cardinals have secured the services of one of their key offensive linemen, ensuring stability in their lineup for the foreseeable future. Hjalte Froholdt, initially drafted as a guard in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, has agreed to a substantial extension with the team.
Froholdt, who transitioned to the center position, signed a two-year deal with the Cardinals in March 2023. As of August 25, 2026, he has accepted a two-year, $20 million extension. Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday, “Sources: The AZCardinals and C Hjalte Froholdt have agreed to terms on a 2-year, $20M contract extension, keeping him in the fold through the 2028 season.”
Froholdt’s performance has been pivotal for the team. Over recent seasons, he has become one of the most reliable and consistent performers on the offensive line. Despite the Cardinals’ challenges, such as conceding the fifth most sacks last season, Froholdt has stood out as a dependable player in the middle of the line. His ability to stay healthy has also been a significant asset, having started every game for Arizona since September 2023.
While Froholdt’s extension addresses a significant part of the team’s needs, the Arizona Cardinals’ offensive line still requires further strengthening. Notably, right tackle Elijah Wilkinson, at 31, remains under scrutiny as a starting player, and guard Isaiah Adams needs to demonstrate his capacity as a first-team player for future seasons. Nonetheless, securing Froholdt for the next three years provides much-needed stability and assurance for the team.
