Armed Man Arrested at U.S. Capitol Security Barricade

An armed individual was detained on Monday after attempting to enter a security barricade outside the U.S. Capitol. The incident led to an investigation about the motives of the person, causing part of the Capitol grounds to be temporarily closed.

Capitol Incident Details

The U.S. Capitol Police reported the arrest at the North Barricade where officers found the man in possession of a firearm. Possession of firearms is strictly forbidden on Capitol Grounds, prompting authorities to close off the area to process the scene.

“Our investigators are working to learn more about the suspect and why he drove to the U.S. Capitol,” the Capitol Police stated.

At this time, the suspect remains unidentified and no charges have been announced.

Scene at the Capitol

Police activity continued into the afternoon, with officers removing items from a Ford Bronco located in front of the barricade. Among the items were water bottles and personal belongings. A dog found inside the vehicle was safely removed and transported by an SPCA vehicle.

The North Barricade stayed closed while the investigation was ongoing.
