Rescue of a Bald Eagle Near Big Bear Lake
A bald eagle found near Big Bear Lake over the weekend is believed to be Jackie, one half of a popular eagle pair featured in a nest livestream. The Friends of Big Bear Valley, the nonprofit associated with the cam, shared this on social media, explaining that the rescued eagle aligns with Jackie’s known characteristics based on public videos and pictures.
“It is apparent that the rescued eagle is likely Jackie,” Friends of Big Bear Valley declared. “She is in the best place she can be and getting the care she needs.”
Details of the Incident
The adult bald eagle was sighted Thursday and Friday on the ground near Dana Point Park, located in Fawnskin, adjacent to Big Bear Lake. During these days, Jackie engaged in a conflict with two sub-adult eagles.
The organization confirmed through a cell phone video that the adult bald eagle managed to defend itself using its talons. However, it struggled to fly away from the scene.
Absence from the Nest
Jackie, a star of the webcam reality show since 2015, had not been seen at the nest for several days, raising concerns. Viewers have followed her and her mate, Shadow, as they navigated losses but also triumphs raising eaglets. Their latest offspring, Sandy and Luna, took their first flights recently.
Efforts in the Rescue
The injured eagle was picked up by the L.A. County Parks and Recreation San Dimas Raptor Rescue on Saturday. The agency emphasized the collective efforts to ensure the eagle received proper care. The eagle is currently undergoing treatment at a specialized rehabilitation facility.
Friends of Big Bear Valley cautioned against misinformation and urged fans not to contact the rescue agency due to limited resources. Despite this, concern and support were evident on social media among fans of Big Bear bald eagles.
“It’s been a very worrying wait this weekend with Jackie missing in action,” mentioned one Instagram user.
Another individual, familiar with Jackie’s movements, confidently asserted her identity through a Parks and Recreation Department post.
“That’s her, no doubt. Been watching for 2 years now, I know her better than some of my own relatives.”
Community Support
Upon the nonprofit’s announcement about Jackie’s likely identification, commenters expressed hope for her swift recovery. The enthusiasm for her return to the nest remains strong within the community.
“Praying for a speedy recovery so she can go back to her family soon!” a commenter shared.
