Bill Gates Discusses Concerns Over Potential Epstein Blackmail
Billionaire Bill Gates recently addressed the House Oversight Committee, expressing concerns that Jeffrey Epstein may have considered blackmailing him due to his extramarital affairs. This revelation emerged from a transcript of Gates’ interview released on Tuesday.
In his statement to the committee on June 10, Gates clarified, “He never blackmailed me, but looking at these emails, it raises a serious probability that he contemplated blackmailing me.” The Microsoft co-founder was part of the committee’s investigation into the late convicted sex offender.
Earlier in February, Gates confessed to members of his foundation about having two affairs. He described his association with Epstein as a significant oversight and addressed staff during a town hall meeting, stating his regret and affirming, “I did nothing illicit. I said nothing illicit.”
Gates, through the recent interview, acknowledged his awareness that Epstein possessed a criminal conviction “of a sexual nature” at the time of their meeting. Gates admitted, “I probably should have” explored the specifics further. Epstein, who had pled guilty to state charges in Florida in 2008, was mandated to register as a sex offender. Gates indicated their initial meeting occurred in 2011, and the two had several interactions, including email exchanges.
Despite the scrutiny, Gates emphasized he was not accused of any wrongdoing connected to Epstein. He reinforced that Epstein never introduced him to young women. After his testimony, Gates released a statement expressing his appreciation for meeting with the committee and answering their inquiries. He asserted his support for releasing all related files, hoping his involvement aids justice for Epstein’s victims.
In connection with this investigation, the committee also provided the transcript of Lesley Groff’s interview, Epstein’s long-term secretary. During her June 9 interview, Groff maintained she never witnessed any illegal activities throughout her 18-year tenure working for Epstein.
