Bill Maher criticized BuzzFeed and HuffPost during an interview with Byron Allen on his podcast “Club Random.” Allen, who owns both publications, discussed his investment. Maher referred to them as “peak woke.”
Allen recently purchased BuzzFeed for $120 million and serves as CEO. BuzzFeed acquired HuffPost in 2020. Maher expressed his dissatisfaction, particularly with HuffPost, stating it became excessively woke after Arianna Huffington’s departure.
Maher shared grievances against what he perceives as “purity” on the left, suggesting HuffPost criticized him due to his independent views. He described their beliefs as lacking perspective.
Maher labeled both organizations as filled with “snarky millennial Nepo babies.” He commented on the perceived indoctrination of employees in these media outlets, whom he considers unrepresentative of broader America.
Allen, having recently taken charge, mentioned he reads the publications and noted the spectrum of content. He cited lessons from Al Masini, emphasizing the importance of not getting caught up in controversies.
HuffPost faced criticism earlier in the year for an Olympics-related article shared on social media. The piece discussed discomfort in cheering for the USA during a politically turbulent time.
The article highlighted the tension between national pride and the federal government’s actions, referencing statements by athletes like Hunter Hess, who expressed discontent with certain national issues.
