Brandi Kruse Ejected from Soccer Match Over T-Shirt
Brandi Kruse, an independent journalist, was ejected from a National Women’s Soccer League match in Portland, Oregon. She joined Laura Ingraham to share her experience of being removed by stadium security for wearing a T-shirt supporting female athletics.
Kruse and a group of women wore XX-XY shirts, symbolizing support for females in sports, when they faced harassment at a Portland Thorns game in Providence Park. The group reported verbal and physical aggression from nearby fans. Despite these hostile actions, it was Kruse and her group who were escorted out of the stadium.
During the match, the group displayed a “Save Women’s Sports” banner, which drew the ire of opposing supporters. A statement from the Portland Thorns praised their fans, even after the incident. This has led to criticism from Kruse and supporters, given the ordeal faced by her and her group.
Speaking with Laura Ingraham, Kruse noted she received no explanation from security for her removal. She recounted her conversation with security, stating, “I demanded an explanation when asked to leave, and was told ‘you know what you did.’ Yet, I had no idea.” She emphasized her decision to remain until forcibly removed.
In response to Ingraham’s inquiry, Kruse explained the complexity of determining responsibility. Providence Park is city-owned but operated by Peregrine Sports, leaving uncertainty about who ordered the removal. Additional attendees, including reporter Matt Calkins, faced aggression during the event.
The security’s actions were criticized, as they intervened despite lacking police authority. Kruse pointed out that simple non-reaction to opposing views is expected in public spaces.
“You know, all they had to do is not react to our t-shirts.”
The incident highlights tensions faced by those advocating for women’s sports. The XX-XY shirts featured scientific references to chromosomes, sparking confrontation yet leading to the group’s removal.
The issue reflects broader challenges in public discourse, where opposing views spark significant backlash. Kruse’s experience has drawn attention to how dissenting opinions are handled in public events and spaces.
