Bryn Walker Co-founders Found Dead: Investigation Underway
Bryn Walker co-founders Bryan Walker, 61, and Michelle Min, 63, were discovered dead from gunshot wounds outside their Oakland Hills residence on Friday. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The authorities have yet to determine who fired the weapon, and the news has shocked family members and neighbors.
Initially launched in 1992 as a small retail business in Berkeley, Bryn Walker evolved into a notable women’s clothing brand distributed nationally. According to their website, the brand operates six company-owned stores and sells in about 1,000 boutiques across the nation.
Oakland Hills Incident: Key Details
Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the Panoramic Hill area on October 2. Located near the University of California, Berkeley, authorities found Walker and Min outside their home. Despite lifesaving efforts by responding officers and paramedics, both were pronounced dead on the scene.
A firearm was recovered at the location. Oakland police, who are leading the investigation, have not ruled out a murder-suicide. A neighbor reportedly found the couple after hearing gunshots. Police have stated they are not pursuing other suspects and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
Min’s Brother Suspects Murder-Suicide
Paul Min, Michelle Min’s brother, shared his belief that Walker may have shot his sister before taking his own life. Although he remembered Walker as “honest,” “responsible,” and “hardworking,” financial troubles seemed to have negatively impacted Walker’s mental health. Paul Min revealed concerns had been growing over Walker’s well-being, noting financial losses and increasing depression.
As further evidence of concern, Walker had previously mentioned ending things, which alarmed his family. Paul Min suspected Walker learned about plans to seek psychiatric treatment for him, which could have played a role in the tragic outcome.
Building the Bryn Walker Brand
The partnership between Bryan Walker and Michelle Min began in the Midwest during the 1980s. They eventually moved to California, where Min designed clothing and accessories, growing a single-store operation into a broader retail and wholesale business.
Michelle Min’s Role in Family
Paul Min recounted his sister’s influential role in their family. After immigrating from Korea in 1977, Michelle often looked after her siblings while helping with household duties. Her dedication extended to caring for their aging parents and supporting Paul during his Stage 4 cancer diagnosis.
After the couple’s passing, their miniature Australian shepherd, Pip, is being cared for by a friend.
Community Vigil in Berkeley
A vigil was held by Berkeley residents in honor of the couple. Janice Thomas, a participant from the community, expressed a collective sense of unease despite not personally knowing Bryan and Michelle.
Ongoing Police Investigation
The Oakland Police Department continues its active investigation. Authorities request that anyone with information, photographs, or video related to the incident contact investigators directly.
