Calls for Resignation Intensify Amid Domestic Abuse Allegations
Senator Bernie Moreno from Ohio urged Representative Max Miller, also from Ohio, to resign from Congress, citing concerns about Miller’s character. Moreno emphasized the need for psychological help for Miller, stating, “If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them.” Moreno expressed his viewpoint in a detailed statement on X.
Brian Poindexter, Miller’s opponent from the Democratic Party for Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, echoed the sentiment. Poindexter remarked, “No one credibly accused of holding a gun to his wife’s head and breaking their 2-year-old daughter’s collarbone belongs in the halls of power.” Poindexter conveyed this opinion in a statement on Sunday.
Senator Moreno rejected Miller’s defense against allegations made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the senator’s daughter. In his statement, Moreno urged Miller to seek psychological help, labeling him a danger to his daughter and expressing concern for his granddaughter’s safety.
“As a father and husband, I can tell you the last two years have been pure hell for my wife Bridget, our daughter Emily, me, and our entire family in the aftermath of Emily’s divorce,” Moreno stated.
The senator described the public scrutiny that has enveloped their family, declaring that their priority remains protecting his daughter and granddaughter. Moreno had hoped to maintain privacy, but cited Miller’s behavior as increasingly erratic, making confidentiality difficult.
In response, Miller denied all allegations of abuse. He claimed no court or government body has validated any abuse claims against him, nor faced criminal charges. Miller stated that child welfare investigations concluded without findings against him. He suggested that these allegations surfaced as a tactic amid the custody dispute.
Emily Moreno accused Miller of threatening and physically assaulting her during their marriage. Allegations included violence, such as holding a gun to her head and boiling water incidents. Miller refuted these claims, explaining interactions as harmless and denying causing his daughter’s injury.
Stefan Mychajliw, spokesperson for Emily Moreno, rebuked Miller’s public statements. “It is shameful that Max Miller decided to go on a bizarre and lie-filled rant about his ex-wife to desperately try to save his political career,” Mychajliw wrote. He asserted that ample evidence exists regarding Miller’s violent behavior.
The statements intensify pressure on Miller as the deadline for candidate replacement approaches. Republicans may encourage Miller to step down to introduce a new candidate before the November election. Despite this, Miller, backed previously by former President Trump’s endorsement, affirmed his commitment to continue as the Republican nominee.
