Cam Schlittler to Lead Yankees in Wild-Card Series Against Red Sox

New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler is set to take the mound for the opening game of the wild-card series against the Boston Red Sox. The matchup will take place on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. While Schlittler’s pitching prowess is well-known, his activities off the field have also garnered attention.

Schlittler’s performance this season has been impressive, boasting a 1.95 ERA with 239 strikeouts and 49 walks. Many are considering him a strong candidate for the 2026 American League Cy Young Award. Schlittler made a significant impact last season with dominant playoff performances, including an 8-inning shutout against Boston and a 6.1-inning, two-run effort against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Despite his Yankee affiliation, Schlittler grew up a Boston Red Sox fan in Walpole, Massachusetts. This connection has led to some contentious exchanges with Red Sox fans. Initially playful, these interactions have become awkward, fueling more tension.

Schlittler’s involvement on social media has been controversial. He has been known to engage with critics online. This often leads to heated exchanges and accusations of victimhood. An example includes a now-deleted post where Schlittler insulted a female Red Sox podcast member, and a lengthy interaction with another Red Sox fan concerning his postseason performance. Yankees director Chad Bohling has even shown Schlittler clips of people criticizing him.

Schlittler claims these social media interactions will end. “There’s no reason to get involved with those people on social media, right now at least,” Schlittler told Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. He believes he’ll handle the situation better moving forward. “When I get prepared for whatever day I start, it’s not what I’m going to be thinking about.”

Whether Schlittler sticks to this resolution remains uncertain. Fans will be eager to see his performance in Game 1 against the Red Sox this Tuesday.
