Cape Fear Series Offers a Modern Twist
Cape Fear, now a 10-part miniseries on Apple TV, premieres on June 5. This series revives the narrative from John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel, which has already inspired two intense films about a vengeful ex-convict.
Background of Cape Fear
The first film adaptation, released in 1962, starred Robert Mitchum as Max Cady and Gregory Peck as attorney Sam Bowden. The film depicted Bowden as heroic and Mitchum’s Cady as a force of vengeful nature. A memorable scene featured Cady intimidating Bowden’s wife, played by Polly Bergen, with a raw egg, which became iconic in thriller cinema.
