A passenger aboard the Carnival Panorama cruise ship jumped overboard as the vessel concluded the final day of a week-long trip. The cruise, which left Long Beach, California, on September 13, was on its return journey from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that the incident involved a male passenger who went overboard while the ship sailed back to Long Beach. The company engaged search and investigation procedures immediately after being informed of the missing guest, including reviewing CCTV footage. Notifications were also sent to the U.S. and Mexico Coast Guards.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones, said the spokesperson, referring to the family of the passenger who was onboard with him. Support is being provided to them.
Passengers on the cruise reported hearing announcements about the missing guest starting around 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Carnival Panorama had set sail from Puerto Vallarta at 8 p.m. on Thursday, marking its last port of call.
Repeated announcements followed throughout the afternoon. By 3 p.m., the ship altered its course. At 3:30 p.m., a shipwide search was declared. All guests were instructed to return to their rooms while security checked each room and scanned guests’ identification cards, a standard procedure for such searches.
Despite ongoing efforts, another announcement at 5 p.m. confirmed the passenger had gone overboard after reviewing onboard camera footage. Local authorities were set to continue the search and rescue operations. Guests were then free to leave their staterooms but were informed of the situation.
Later that evening, around 7 p.m., it was announced that the ship would dock in Long Beach at 9 a.m. the following day.
Carnival Cruise Line ensured the absent passenger’s family and traveling companions were informed of his loss and were receiving support from the care team.
