Chef Todd Stein’s New Adventure: Juniper Restaurant Opens in Highwood
Chicago Chef Todd Stein’s culinary career reached a new milestone on August 25, 2026, as he launched Juniper in Highwood. Located at 200 Green Bay Road, Juniper merges local inspiration with global influences, presenting a unique dining experience.
Juniper combines elements of a supper club with a neighborhood spot, offering Stein’s distinctive take on American classics alongside expertly crafted sushi. Patrons can enjoy craft cocktails, a comprehensive wine list, and a sake selection that complements the diverse menu.
A highlight dish includes Tuna Tartar with crushed avocado, ponzu, and taro chips, showcasing Juniper’s commitment to quality and flavor.
The restaurant’s interior reflects Stein’s upbringing in Highland Park. Its design features deep blues and juniper hues native to Illinois alongside wood-grained accents. A hand-painted mural, 35 feet in length, depicts a Lake Michigan sunrise reminiscent of Stein’s time at Rosewood Beach.
“Our goal with Juniper is to offer a modern American culinary experience, reimagining comfort food with signature cocktails and sushi,” Stein explained.
Juniper features varied dining spaces, including a chic main room, a secluded sushi bar, a private dining area, and an outdoor patio for summer dining. Executive Sushi Chef Akira Yang heads the sushi program, delivering classic and specialty rolls, sashimi, and nigiri.
With over thirty years of culinary expertise, Stein has directed renowned Chicago kitchens like Formento’s, The Bristol, mk, and Ballyhoo Hospitality. He expressed excitement in contributing personally to the evolving North Shore dining scene.
Juniper’s menu includes elevated American classics such as Filet Mignon Sliders, Mini Lobster Rolls, Rotisserie Chicken, and Ribeye Steak Frites. These dishes balance nostalgia with refined technique.
General Manager TJ Bachmeyer joined Stein in realizing Juniper as a shared dream rooted in the belief that hospitality is about creating a sense of belonging. Bachmeyer noted, “Our partnership has felt natural from the beginning, like everything easily clicks into place.”
Juniper invites guests to connect, dine, and celebrate in a space where every visitor feels welcome.
