Chicago Hosts WNBA All-Star Weekend

Chicago is bustling with excitement as the WNBA All-Star weekend unfolds. The highlight of this three-day event is the All-Star Game scheduled for Saturday at the United Center. Anticipation is sky-high, with officials estimating that the WNBA Live fan fest at McCormick Place will welcome around 30,000 attendees.

A signature event, ‘Line ‘Em Up,’ took place at Foster Park on the South Side. Over 75 young girls participated in activities led by UIC women’s basketball coach Ashleen Bracey. New paint on the basketball courts added a fresh touch, thanks to painter Hunter Krause, who prepared the courts just in time for the activities.

Among the highlights at McCormick Place, fans marveled at a giant WNBA basketball and interacted with WNBA All-Stars. Star players like Paige Bueckers and Jonquel Jones walked the orange carpet, engaging with fans and adding to the thrill of the event.

The fan fest featured various displays, including images of top players such as A’ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark. A signed Caitlin Clark jersey was one of the highlights on display. Players like Jessica Shepard and Gabby Williams also took time to sign autographs and greet their supporters.

In another engaging scene, mascots of WNBA teams gathered and added their unique flair to the festivities. Additionally, fans relished the opportunity to see the WNBA championship trophy prominently displayed at the venue.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert acknowledged the league’s ‘hypergrowth,’ even as the relationship with players remains tense. However, the energetic atmosphere and the widespread fan engagement during the weekend’s events demonstrate the league’s growing popularity.
