The Chicago White Sox have demonstrated significant growth in their offensive performance in the 2026 season. Director of hitting Ryan Fuller attributed this progress to a revamped hitting program. The team averaged 4.78 runs per game, leading the American League, a jump from 3.99 the previous year.
Fuller emphasized the program’s evolution, stating, “Last year was about envisioning potential. Now, it’s about showing players tangible results at the major league level.” The excitement around the offensive improvements is palpable among both players and staff.
The White Sox are in a strong position, aiming for postseason success. They led the AL Central with a three-game advantage over the second-place Cleveland Guardians as of midweek.
Key Offensive Contributors
Home runs have been a substantial factor for the White Sox. They rank third in the AL with 181 home runs. Since July 26, they are second in the majors with 50 home runs. Three players—Munetaka Murakami, Colson Montgomery, and Miguel Vargas—each have 29 home runs this season.
Though Murakami went without a homer since August 18, Fuller remains confident in his ability to rebound. “He has the capacity to make excellent swing decisions,” Fuller noted, adding the team believes Murakami will regain form with consistency and strike the ball with power.
Manager Will Venable remarked, “No panic with him. Mune is making good swing decisions and hasn’t shown any stress on the field.”
Colson Montgomery, despite batting .207 post-All-Star break, displayed resilience with three multi-hit games recently. Fuller praised his self-awareness and readiness to adjust strategies when performances fluctuate.
Outfielder Tristan Peters shone in August, maintaining a .320 average and matching a franchise record by homering in five consecutive games. Fuller commended Peters’ capacity to recover from the post-All-Star break slump, pointing to his prior success as an All-Star.
Miguel Vargas’ consistency is notable, securing a spot on base in 18 consecutive games with a .381/.530/.635 slash line. He leads the AL with 93 runs. Fuller highlighted his balanced skill set—exemplary decision-making, above-average contact, and improved batting power.
“This year, Vargas achieved consistency across all valued skills,” Fuller explained, noting the influence of off-season training.
Pitching Updates
Davis Martin returned from the 15-day injured list, overcoming a blister issue. He rejoined the team as the scheduled starter against the Astros on Wednesday. To accommodate this, Tanner McDougal was moved to Triple-A Charlotte after being recalled the previous day but not pitching in the 5-1 victory.
