Chrissy Metz recently addressed public criticism regarding her weight loss during an episode of “The Tamsen Show” podcast. The 45-year-old actress spoke candidly about her decision to use GLP-1 medication and the ongoing negative comments about her body.
“It’s not that I’m free from naysayers and people making all kinds of comments, even now,” Metz shared on the podcast. “I wonder when this will stop, and I doubt it ever will.” She recounted a recent encounter with a distant relative who congratulated her for “taking control of your weight,” acknowledging that weight has always been a family issue. Metz acknowledged that internet trolls are relentless in their comments.
“It’s interesting what people say. Would they ever say it to you on the streets? Never. They might say, ‘Oh, Chrissy, you’re pretty, but them eyebrows.’ It seems nothing I do ever satisfies everyone,” she remarked.
Metz shared some of the frequent critiques she receives, such as, “Why’d you wear that? Why did you do this? Why aren’t you losing weight? Oh, you’re losing weight?” She commented on how such reactions persist regardless of her actions.
“No matter what you do, someone will always have something to say,” Metz stated. “It’s not personal, but it can be taxing. Sometimes, you just need to shut it off.”
Currently performing in the Broadway musical “& Juliet,” Metz considers continuing her career despite criticism to be “an act of rebellion.”
On another recent appearance on “Today,” Metz discussed her experience with GLP-1 medication. Initially skeptical, her perspective shifted after her father’s death due to obesity-related complications.
The medication notably helped by reducing her preoccupation with food, alleviating what she described as “loud food noise.”
“I realize now how silly it sounds, but I didn’t know that not everyone hears that mental noise all the time,” Metz said. “There are chemical and hereditary factors at play.” This realization, combined with her family history, motivated her to seek medication, which made her feel better.
Metz is collaborating with Ro, a telehealth company that offers medications for various health issues, including weight loss.
