The anticipation for Christopher Nolan’s latest project, “The Odyssey,” has sparked a ticket-buying frenzy. Many fans faced challenges as AMC’s website struggled under high demand on Thursday. Reports quickly surfaced about technical issues, leaving moviegoers frustrated.
According to online accounts, numerous users experienced delays of several hours while attempting to secure tickets for the movie’s release on July 17. Some ticket buyers couldn’t find available seats as theaters quickly filled to capacity. A social media user commented, “Since when is it so hard to get advance movie tickets? It’s like trying to get Coachella tickets — all my friends are in online queues with wait times over an hour!”
AMC has not yet provided a response to NBC News regarding these issues.
“The Odyssey,” distributed by Universal Pictures, adapts the ancient Greek epic poem by Homer. Actor Matt Damon plays the role of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who embarks on a journey home following the Trojan War. The film features a prominent cast, including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson.
Nolan’s newest release has sparked considerable interest due to its impressive cast and production details. With a budget of $250 million, it is the first film shot entirely on IMAX film. Nolan’s reputation precedes him, known for directing successful hits like “Interstellar,” “The Dark Knight,” and “Oppenheimer.”
The ticketing complications led to a flood of memes and humorous reactions online. One user on X shared the excitement, “I JUST GOT MY TICKET FOR THE ODYSSEY OH MY GOD IM SHAKING.” Another account posted stickers styled like “I Voted” with captions highlighting the struggle to get tickets.
As of Thursday afternoon, AMC’s app appears functional, though wait times of over 30 minutes persist. A social media user remarked on the irony, “Spending an hour trying to obtain a ticket to the Odyssey… almost analogous to a years long journey to return home to one’s wife.”
